Paul McMenamin began his racing career in 1975. He joined the Phoenix Motorcycle Club, obtained a racing licence and entered his 1973 Honda CB350F in the October meeting at MacNamara Park, Mount Gambier. After being allocated a start in D grade it became apparent the Honda didn't want to be raced, when a week before the meeting it expires with a siezed camshaft. Later that year, Paul purchases one of the legendary Kawasaki H2 750cc two-strokes. Taking to the track in devastating form, he crashes at 100 mph (160 kph) in turn one at the infamous Adelaide International Raceway. Entering the Christmas meeting at Mount Gambier, Paul was placed in C grade, before he and the 750 had fronted for their first race. History records, they spent more time in the grass than a Victa lawnmower.
